An expedition experience by a group of five foreign visitors turned tragic after a light aircraft crashed at the vast Sanctuary Farm, situated along the Moi South Lake road in Naivasha.

One of the passengers was burnt beyond recognition while the pilot sustained 60 per cent burns during the midday incident.

Four of them, including two women, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the Naivasha sub county hospital before being airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment to Nairobi.

“The four are out of danger but were are transferring them to Nairobi for specialised care,” said the Naivasha sub county Medical Officer of Health Dr Oren Ombiro

Naivasha head of the police Titus Mathuku said the five wanted to encircle Lake Naivasha and catch a glimpse of an aerial view of the fresh water lake when the plane developed mechanical problems.

“Initial investigations indicate the plane developed mechanical problems but we have launched a probe,” he said.

Hundreds of curious onlookers rushed to the incident minutes after the plane came tumbling down.
