One dead in Nairobi as Jubilee primaries turn ugly

One person died and another was seriously injured after being attacked by youths who attacked them for posting posters of a Jubilee aspirant near the Pangani polling station.

Nairobi County Commander Japhet Koome said the altercation occurred when two youths were seen posting posters of an aspirant along Juja Road near Pangani girls.

The two were then accosted and attacked by supporters of a rival candidate who stabbed them.

The deceased was hit by a vehicle as he attempted to flee. He died on the spot in the 6am incident and the body was moved to City Mortuary pending a post-mortem.

Mr Koome condemned the attack saying it was illegal for the aspirants to put up posters when polls were being conducted.

“It was very wrong for the aspirant to have let his supporters continue campaigning when polls are being conducted, but at the same time is was also not right for the other supporters to have attacked them. Because two wrongs do not make a right,” said Mr Koome.

The other victim is receiving treatment in hospital.
