Opposition leader Raila baffled by recent wave of femicide
Opposition leader Raila Odinga has expressed shock at the recent cases of killings that appear to be targeting women in the country.
In a post on the social media platform, Mr Odinga said there is a need to put an end to the alarming cases of female murders and called on investigative bodies to step up and arrest the culprits.
“The ugly scourge of murder of women is now a national emergency. It is a threat to homeland security. It must come to an end. It is sad to see a troubling increase in the deaths of young women, leaving a trail of grief for families and friends,” Mr Odinga said.
The Azimio leader stated that the abnormality of such murders cannot become the new normal, and that murder is and will always be wrong, and there is no justification whatsoever.
Mr Odinga’s point of concern comes as the country continues to seek answers after a heinous murder of a woman in Kasarani area, where her body was dismembered and wrapped in polythene.
The 20-year-old woman’s body was discovered in an Airbnb in Roysambu, and the family has identified their daughter as detectives continue to investigate the matter.

Three suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the murder in Roysambu, thanks to CCTV footage which the police are using to make their moves.
Among the arrested suspects is a foreign national who was picked up at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in connection with the murder.
The Roysambu incidence came days after a similar incidence was reported in the South B area, where the body of an Instagram model identified as Starlet Wahu was discovered in an Airbnb.
Wahu’s lifeless body was discovered when the apartment attendant observed suspicious moves from the suspect who had booked the room with the late, prompting her to raise an alarm.
John Matara has been identified as the main suspect in the murder of Wahu and is still in police custody pending ongoing investigation.
