Pangani blast car owner out on Sh10 m bond
The owner of the car that exploded outside Pangani police station was on Monday charged with harbouring a suspected terrorist.
Ahmed Dugal Ali, who appeared before Nairobi resident magistrate E Rianyi, also faced another charge of soliciting and giving support to terrorist group.
The accused denied the charges and was released on a Sh10 million bond with a surety of similar amount or an alternative of Sh8 million cash bail.
The prosecution did not oppose the release of the accused on bond, but asked the court to place stringent measures.
Defence lawyer Mbugua Muriithi urged the court to release his client on lenient bond terms. noting that the accused had voluntarily presented himself to the police.
“He is a law abiding citizen whose conduct should be rewarded by the court by lenient bond terms, he is not a flight risk,” said Mr Muriithi.
The accused allegedly, being the owner of a house at Nyayo estate in Embakasi area, harboured Mohamed Abass Hassan (deceased) while knowing or having reason to believe him to be a terrorist.
The offence is alleged to have been committed on diverse dates between March and April 23 this year.
According to the prosecution, the accused together with others not before court being the owner of the car supported the commission of a terrorist act by providing it to be used.
The offence is alleged to have been committed on April 23 this year at Pangani police station area within Nairobi County.
According to the charge sheet list of witnesses, three police officers are scheduled to give their evidence during the trial of the accused.
The court also directed the prosecution to supply the defence with all witnesses’ statements and any documentary evidence they intend to use within two weeks.
The case has been fixed for hearing on July 1.
