Pastor Dorcas Rigathi urges youth to venture in creative industry
Pastor Dorcas Rigathi has implored on the youth to venture in the creative economy industry and increase employment opportunities.
Speaking at Oshwal Centre in Nairobi during a fashion and lifestyle wedding exhibition organised by the the India-Kenyan business community, the Deputy President’s spouse said the creative industry has the potential to job and wealth creation and national integration.
“The creative industry has a great potential that is endless. It is the vast sea with unlimited space that can employ millions of our youth. It can pull many to self-employment and eradicate poverty. I urge all our youth to look into this direction and engage in meaningful economic activities towards a better and dignified life,” Pastor Dorcas said.
She drummed up support for the growth of the creative economy to spur job creation adding that the sector has independent minds and liberty of action since creativity is unlimited.
“I am encouraging our young people and hundreds of others, who have invested in the creative industry, to fight on, to keep on trying and never give up. Whatever they create, millions of people will be able to see their work, the art, and the creativity. I encourage you to keep on exploiting their potential; the skills, talents, and abilities God created you with must be explored and exposed to the world for the good of humanity.”
The event dubbed ‘UUF Labels Fashion Show 2024’ attracted over 45 exhibitors dealing with Indian bridal accessories, wedding decor items, bridal jewelry, clothes, and other wedding accessories for brides and grooms.
She commended organizers and participants of the event for showcasing their innovativeness and the rich culture that Kenya and India separately have and also share.
Pastor Dorcas stated that the creative industry has the potential to employ many people and contribute optimally to the country’s development and eradicate poverty, adding that the sector is unlimited.
Development of the creative economy, she added, has the potential to drive regional economy and integration.
The event was also in aid of ‘The Rural Women Peace Link’, a grassroots women-led organization that mobilizes, influences, and promotes the participation of local women in peace building, governance, and development.
Some of the guests who accompanied Pastor Dorcas at the event include Taita Taveta Deputy Governor Christine Saru Kilalo, Elgon Kenya Managing Director Mr Bimal Kantaria, and Safaricom CFO Mr Dilip Pal among others.
