Physically challenged Mombasa residents receive donations

National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK) on Saturday distributed mobility appliances and vocational tools of trade to 27 persons with disabilities in Mombasa County.

Some12 vocational institutions also received Sh 1.8 million in forms of grants.

The NFDK distributed barber tool kit, carpentry tools, crutches, hair salon kit, sewing machines, welding tool kit, wheelchairs which they can use to support themselves economically.

Addressing disabled people in Uhuru na Kazi building in Mombasa that houses the coast regional coordinator’s office, Peter Nyakiamo trustee and vice chairman NFDK urged the disabled in the region to register with the government order to benefit from different initiatives.

GOOD USE OF DONATIONS

‘‘We are urging the disabled to register with us to be able to benefit and those of you who are beneficiaries please make good use of the donations”, said Nyakiamo.

Samuel Kilele the coast regional coordinator urged those who benefited from the items from the government through NFDP initiative to make proper use of them adding that it was regrettable some of them ended up selling the items in the market.

Mike Kiswili trustee and chairman procurement warned that NFDP officials will follow up to ensure donations are used appropriately.

Kiswili called for an empowering and inclusion of people living with disabilities in the society in order to commit their full potentials to national development.

He said the government through the NFDP is committed to teaching ICT skills to youth with disabilities for them to make real difference in this digital era.
