‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ premiers as Imax Anga celebrates two years

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge the finale to the franchise premiered in Kenya this week which coincided with Anga Sky marking their 2nd anniversary.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge has the makings of an epic adventure, but many people who have been loyal fans of the franchise were left scratching their heads.

At the end it seemed the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow played by Johnny Depp, who has been associated with the franchise since the first Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, premiered in 2003 had been reduced to a supporting role.

Still Sparrow in Salazar’s Revenge or Dead Men Tell No Tales, continues to be a charming, drunken pirate who waddles into a quest for the ultimate treasure as the other actors also remained impeccably comical.

The adventures lack the element of surprise and at the end of the day Sparrow seemed irrelevant to the main plot.

VISUAL EFFECTS

The visual effects are stunning, the vast emptiness of sea are impressive, and after the first half hour the pace keeps you hooked as it thrives on star-power, with cameos of the original cast Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly who both played Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann in the first three films in the franchise. At the end the special effects and the visual treat of a climax will pull to buy into the fantasy.

The celebrations, which were held at Anga Sky at The Panari Hotel, Mombasa road were also graced by singers Amos and Josh of the Heri Tuachane fame.

The management said that they were grateful to have been entertaining Kenyans through movies.

“It is particularly gratifying to be celebrating this anniversary as we have come from a remarkable but significant journey with some ups and downs and emerging as one of the top service providers in the cinema industry” said Mr Edward Mwangi, Manager Anga Sky cinema.

Currently at two locations – Anga Imax at 20th Century Plaza, Mama Ngina Street, CBD and Anga Sky at The Panari Hotel, Mombasa road – Anga Imax will be opening a third branch at the new Diamond Plaza in Parklands.
