Police arrest kilimani gang that has been terrorising city residents
Detectives in Nairobi have arrested a gang that has been terrorising city residents since 2023.
The three notorious suspects were arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives in the Kilimani area of Nairobi County and Athi River, Machakos County.
DCI said in a statement that the long-running joint operation led to the arrest of 39-year-old Julius Osoro Nyagoi in Nairobi’s Kilimani area on Wednesday, April 10, who led them to his homestead at Green Park Estate in Athi River, Machakos County where his accomplices were domiciled.
“The operation followed a thorough forensic analysis of evidence obtained from various armed robbery scenes across Nairobi and its environs, which were staged on diverse dates from 2023. Detectives from DCI Headquarters, Starehe, and Athi River joined forces in a sting operation, successfully arresting 39-year-old Julius Osoro Nyagoi in Kilimani area,” the statement read in part.
DCI said that after the interrogation Nyagoi the suspect led the investigators to his homestead where two of his accomplices, namely, John Michael Muturi, 38, and Charity Njeri Kimani, 34, were also arrested before a thorough search was conducted and several exhibits recovered.
Police recovered a Czeska pistol loaded with 7 rounds of ammunition, two pairs of motor vehicle number plates, assorted motor vehicle parts and several sim cards were recovered from the house.
Other items include mobile phones, two laptops, an iPad, logbooks for cars registered under number plates KCE 135W and KCQ 381A, wristwatches and ATM cards.
“…found at the parking lot were motor vehicles Reg No KDC 019P Mazda Bongo, KCE 135W Toyota Noah, KCB 790B Toyota Mark X and KDE 459A Toyota Fielder, all of which were impounded for verification,” DCI added in their statement.
The trio are currently being held at Pangani Police Station and are set to be arraigned today, Thursday, April 11.
