Police bust major cooking gas racket in Ruiru – PHOTOS


Police in Ruiru have unearthed a multi-million shilling racket involving the sale and distribution of cooking gas by unlicensed dealers.

Police raided a plant in Kimbo area on Wednesday morning where they found Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) being drawn from a three-tonne gas container and filled into cooking gas cylinders.

The plant is located in a residential area next to the General Service Unit (GSU) Recce squad headquarters.

Police arrested the driver of the truck that was carrying the gas container and the owner of the plant.

Over 200 cooking gas cylinders of varying sizes were also seized.

Police suspect the cooking gas is sold in residential areas within Nairobi.

Residents say the plant has been operational for more than a year.
