Police clamp down on errant city boda boda operators

Traffic Police in Nairobi apprehended several unlicensed motorbike operators in a swoop on Thursday morning.

Riders with defective bikes, without helmets and reflector jackets for themselves and their passengers, plus those driving through unauthorized routes such as the Central Business District (CBD) were arrested and their motorbikes impounded in the three hour operation.

The officers took advantage of the traffic snarl ups in some areas of the city to clampdown on the motorbikes for the checks.

The Police said the morning operation was carried out in the wake of a series of accidents mostly caused by negligence on the part of the motorbike users.

Those affected however accused the police of intimidation and extortion.
