Police declare ‘no-go zones’ during expected teachers demo


Police have assured that demos by teachers will not be disrupted but outlined no go zones during the protests.

“Don’t storm private schools. Don’t storm boarding schools where students are studying on their own,” said Police spokesman Charles Owino.

“Public schools where students are also studying will be protected. Protesters must not carry weapons during demos.”

The scheduled prayer meeting for teachers kicked off at Uhuru Park, Nairobi Wednesday morning.

However several union representatives at hand to give them moral support.

Meanwhile, Education Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi says teachers must report back to school because they are engaging in an unprotected strike.

Prof Kaimenyi declined to confirm whether there was a meeting between the ministry, TSC and Deputy President William Ruto in an attempt to end the stalemate.
