Police foil Isis terror attack in Nairobi, arrest suspects

Police on Tuesday arrested two terror suspects during a raid in their hideout in Kangemi estate.

The two, Kiguzo Mwangolo Mgutu and Abubakar Jillo Mohamed, were planning retaliatory attacks following the arrest of the leader of their cell Mohamed Abdi Ali.

The attacks were planned for Nairobi and Mombasa and were to be carried out using home-made explosives.

Police say the suspects were radicalized at Kangemi Mosque and got recruited into Isis by Mohamed Abdi Ali.

HOME-MADE EXPLOSIVES

Various materials used to make the explosives were found in Kiguzo Mwangolo’s house in Kangemi during the Tuesday raid.

This included fertilizer, batteries, electrical wire, nails and ball bearings, which explosive experts have described as raw materials used by terrorists to make home-made explosives.

The suspects had planned to escape to Syria or Libya after carrying out the terror attacks, police spokesman Georgev Kinoti said in a statement on Wednesday.
