Police gun down four robbers in Tena

Police in Nairobi gunned down five suspects in different locations in the City on Monday night.

Nairobi police boss Benson Kibui said police encountered a gang of six robbers armed with firearms at Tena estate.

The police had received information that six gunmen, armed with an AK47 rifle and pistols, were robbing members of the public at a stage along Manyanja road.

Officers on night patrol then rushed to the scene where they managed to gun down four while two accomplices escaped.

“There was an exchange of fire and police managed to gun down four of the suspects,” said Mr Kibui.

In a separate incident, a suspect was gunned down and a homemade gun recovered.

“The suspect was part of a gang of five that was robbing people of their valuables at Muthama shopping center in Riruta,” said Mr Kibui.

He said the operation to recover illegal firearms will continue in line with an ultimatum issued by the President on April 4.
