Police kill four suspected robbers in Nairobi
A five-year-old boy sustained injuries after he was caught up in a gunfight between police and gangsters in Shauri Moyo estate in Nairobi.
The boy was shot on the right shoulder while one of the gangsters identified by the police only as Kaburu was killed during the Monday evening incident.
“Officers on patrol along Kamukunji Road received information that there was a gang of four men robbing members of the public. The officers rushed to the scene and on arrival the gangsters started shooting prompting an exchange of fire,” the police said.
A baretta pistol and two spent cartridges were found at the scene. Police are looking for the other three gangsters who fled towards the nearby Kajificheni slums.
SNATCHED MOBILE PHONE
Separately, police responding to a robbery report shot and killed a suspected robber in Dandora estate.
According to the police, a homemade pistol and two rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain suspect who was part of a four-man gang that had robbed a trader.
In yet another incident, police shot dead an armed robber, who had reportedly snatched a mobile phone from a motorist near Nairobi School.
“He was cornered at the school’s fence but he drew a gun. He was shot and fatally wounded. A homemade pistol and a bullet were recovered from him and the motorist positively identified her phone, which was also recovered at the scene,” the police said.
The suspected, identified as Boniface Muiruri Kungu, 22, who is reported to have been a resident of Kabagare slums.
FATALLY INJURED
Elsewhere, a mugger was shot dead by police near Manmin Holliness church in Buruburu. Police said they rushed to the area after they received reports that four armed men were mugging passersby.
During the shoot out one suspected was fatally injured while his three accomplices fled the scene.
A homemade gun and two rounds of live ammunition were recovered at the scene.
