Police launch manhunt for woman who dumped newborn baby outside clinic

Police in Kisii County are looking for a woman who gave birth and dumped a baby outside a private clinic.

According to the police, the unidentified woman gave birth at an unknown location before she went and dumped the baby outside Isana clinic in Bobaracho, Nyaribari Chache constituency.

The police also said abandoned baby was found by a passerby who heard the infant crying. The baby was dressed in warm clothes and is currently safe.

“A baby boy was found abandoned by a suspected mother who gave birth and disappeared. A passerby, found the child, and took him to Isana nursing home,” the police said in a report.

In a similar incident last December, a middle-aged woman was captured on CCTV footage dumping a one-month old baby inside Ram Hospital’s theatre room in Kisii town.

The footage captured the woman walking straight past the hospital’s reception, a short distance from the facility’s main entrance carrying her baby before abandoning the infant in the theatre room.

“The security guards did not realise what the woman had done and she managed to walk past the gate and she fled,” Mr Enock Abobo the hospital’s manager then said.

Mr Abobo said the hospital management named the baby Gift and offered to take care of the newborn until the mother is found. While the police immediately launched a manhunt for the woman, to date she has never been found.
