Police nab robbery with violence suspects in Eldoret

Three suspects linked to a series of armed robberies with violence in Eldoret town have been arrested by the police as detectives recovered one pistol from the suspects.

Detectives who included officers from regular police units in collaboration with their colleagues from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) managed to arrest the suspects after receiving a tip off from members of the public.

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi said the suspects have been using the recovered pistol to terrorize and rob residents of Eldoret town.

The suspects were found with more than 40 mobile phones as well as a motorcycle that they have been using to engage in felony activities.

Police said the two main suspects were living in a rented house in the town.

Mr Mwanthi said the police had been trailing the suspects for some time before arresting them in a rented house in Baharini estate on the outskirts of Eldoret.

“These suspects have been troubling the residents especially in Elgon View estate and other estates on the outskirts of Elodret town,” said Mr Mwanthi.

Another suspect who was arrested is a businessman who is suspected of selling mobile phones stolen by the main suspects.

“The third suspect is a businessman who has been selling phones that the main suspects have been stealing from the members of the public,” said Mr Mwanthi.

Uasin Gishu county Criminal Criminal Investigating Officer (CCIO), Daniel Muleli, revealed that the suspects were arrested with the help of communication technology through CCTV cameras.

Mr Muleli said the suspects had already used six bullets from the gun that was found in their possession.

“They had already used six bullets from the gun, but we will send it for laboratory examination to get more information about it,” said Mr Muleli

Following the incident police are asking residents who have lost their mobile phones to come to the police station to identify the recovered phones.

“Residents of this town who may have lost their phones through looting or any other means should come to our Eldoret Central police station to identify the phones we have intercepted,” added Mr Mwanthi.
