A police officer is on the run after he shot and killed his girlfriend and their two-year-old daughter dead on Wednesday in what the police suspect to be a crime of passion.

The officer, who has been identified as Cosmas Biwott, is attached to Anti-Stock Theft Unit camp in Subukia, Nakuru.

On the fateful day, the suspect reportedly took a GR rifle belonging to another officer which was loaded with 20 rounds of 7.62mm and shot dead his girlfriend Jane Njoki, 25, and their daughter.

According to police report, the woman was shot on the head, back and her right buttocks, while the child sustained fatal gun shot wounds on her stomach.

The suspect fled the scene after committing the heinous act.

Police found the bodies of the two victims on the bed of the officer with spent cartridges strewn on the bed and floor. The murder weapon was also found on the bed with an empty magazine.

Police say a manhunt for the suspect has been launched.

LYNCHED

In Buru buru, Nairobi, a 45-year-old man was lynched by a mob on allegations he had killed his girlfriend inside a matatu.

Police said the man had quarreled with the woman in the matatu before he reportedly stabbed her to death.

Members of the public pounced on him as he tried to escape from the matatu and stoned him to death. It is not clear what prompted the quarrel.

Meanwhile, a police officer stationed at Ngong Police Station was on Saturday arrested after he was found with a stolen mobile device.

According to the police, the device was stolen in December during a robbery which occurred in December 2017.

The device was kept at the station as evidence in an ongoing case where five robbers broke into a house in Silanga, within Matasia area.

The officer will be arraigned in court to be charged with use of public evidence for private reasons.
