Police are investigating an incident in which an Administration Police officer committed suicide after killing his lover on Thursday.

Isiolo county commissioner John Ondego said the officer came from duty and proceeded to have lunch at a canteen operated by his lover.

Ondego said minutes later the two lovers, who had reportedly cohabited for more than a year, started quarreling after which the officer shot dead the woman and then turned the gun on himself.

The canteen where the incident happened is located within the Administration Police compound.

KILLING LOVERS

Ondego urged officers to always explore more civil ways of resolving disputes.

Cases of police officers killing their lovers and then committing suicide have been on the rise.

Last month, a police officer based in Nakuru County shot his wife dead before turning the gun on himself.

The officer, identified as Constable Cornelius Talaam, who was attached to the Piave police post in Njoro, shot his wife Eunice Wamboi several times before killing himself.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE

During the same month, another police officer shot dead his wife following a domestic dispute at their living quarters at the Kilgoris Police Station in Narok County.

Constable Solomon Muchui engaged his wife Eunice Kerubo in a quarrel over unknown reason after which a fight broke out.

Kerubo inflicted a serious injury on her husband’s head with a hammer, prompting Muchui to respond by fatally shooting her dead before he was rushed to the Trans Mara West Sub County Hospital.
