Police officer stabbed, shot dead inside city matatu

A policeman was on Friday night stabbed before being shot dead with his own firearm by suspected carjackers inside a matatu in Nairobi.

Two other passengers, who were also stabbed, were rushed to a nearby clinic in an incident which took place along Juja Road.

The deceased, an officer attached to the Ruaraka Police Station in Nairobi, was among the passengers in the matatu which had been carjacked by five gangsters.

The thugs stumbled on the officer’s gun while frisking and robbing the passengers. They first stabbed him before snatching the gun, a Jericho pistol, and shooting him dead.

ARRESTED

According to police report, the two of the gang members boarded the matatu at Garden City mall to join their three accomplices who boarded the matatu in the CBD.

After robbing their victims, the thugs commandeered the matatu to Ruiru Kimbo before turning it back towards Baba Ndogo area, then to Outering Road where they eventually alighted at the National Concrete Bridge underpass and fled on foot.

The police have meanwhile arrested the matatu driver and his conductor for purpose of helping with the investigations.

This is the latest killing of a police officer in the city in a month. Another officer shot dead last month as he walked to work in Dandora and robbed of his gun. No recovery has been made so far.
