Police officers to face action for clobbering Cord protesters
The Independent Police Oversight Authority (Ipoa) will investigate police office who were caught on tape assaulting protesters during the anti-IEBC demonstrations held on Monday.
Those found culpable of using excessive force and causing injury will face disciplinary action.
Ipoa has already dispatched investigators to ensure that all errant police officers are investigated and brought to book.
The authority, in a media briefing on Tuesday, said police who responded to the protesting opposition leaders and their supporters did not engage in the lawful process of dispersing a demonstration.
Further, the anti-riot police used unnecessary force.
The authority said it can not confirm whether live bullets were used to disperse the protesters on Monday.
Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet has also ordered for speedy investigations into the use of force during Monday’s protests.
He warned that action will be taken against officers found culpable.
