Police outsmart Nasa demonstrators in Nairobi CBD – PHOTOS

By DAVID MWERE October 24th, 2017 1 min read

Nasa MPs were forced to call off their anti- IEBC protests in the city centre on Tuesday after police sealed off all entry points to the CBD.

A High Court judge last week lifted a ban slapped on all demonstrations in the city centre.

But the leaders were dispersed with clouds of tear-gas as they tried to make their way to Anniversary Towers, the head office of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Siaya Senator James Orengo accused the police of using force and not allowing them to exercise their “constitutionally given right” to protest.

The leaders quickly called off the demonstrations  and later regrouped in Kilimani area where they addressed a press conference.

“”This is blatant violation of rights of Kenyans. The police should not behave this way even when the court has lifted the ban outlawing anti- IEBC demonstrations in the CBD,” Mr Orengo.

Ugunja MP Mr Opiyo Wandayi promised an “even bigger demonstration” on Wednesday.

“We are going to demonstrate in compliance with the directive of our President, Raila Odinga. Contrary to Matiangi’s misconception, our demonstrations are not tied to IEBC’s so-called campaign timelines,” Wandayi said.
