Police probe JKIA bomb scare

Police are investigating a weekend incident at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after a smoke grenade was discovered in the washrooms.

Mr Robert Ombeka, a cleaner raised the alarm after he came across a red metallic gadget next to the transit lounge where Somali bound aircraft are usually screened.

“It was on the toilet breather,” he said in a statement taken by JKIA Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) boss Joseph Ngisa.

The Friday 2pm incident is said to have caused a scare after news of the discovery reached passengers.

It was immediately taken to the Airports police station armoury.

Mr Ngisa told NairobiNews that the smoke grenade has since been taken to the DCI headquarters for examination.

“The grenade is at the DCI headquarters where we will be seeking to know its origin. We are also investigating how it found its way here and the persons behind it,” he said

No arrests have been made.
