Did police pull Embassava tout from moving matatu, causing his death? – PHOTOS

Police in Nairobi have denied claims that a traffic officer caused the death of a tout in Donholm after pulling him from a moving Embassava Sacco matatu on Friday morning.

Police however say the deceased was a passenger, not a tout, who wanted to alight from a moving matatu.

The passenger was identified as 24 year-old Walter Nyangau who sustained serious head and neck injuries and was rushed to Mama Lucy hospital where he was left undergoing treatment.

POLICE ON PATROL

“The said vehicle was from Embakasi heading towards city center and on reaching Outer Ring Road opposite Total petrol station, a passenger wanted to alight from the vehicle and on seeing a police officer who was on patrol standing at the service lane he slipped and fell down and was ran over,” said Buru Buru OCPD Geofrey Mayieke.

Mr Mayieke added that the accident is under investigations and denied reports that there is tension at Donholm.

Eye witnesses however claim that the traffic officer had stretched his hand out and pulled out the tout who was standing on the matatu’s door, causing him to fall on the road before being run over by the vehicle and dying on the spot.

SOCIAL MEDIA VIDEO

Nairobi News has seen a video circulating on social media claiming to capture the scene of the accident, but we could not authenticate its horrific content.

The eye witnesses added that the traffic officer later ran away from the scene as an irate mob bayed for his blood.

In another morning accident, two people were seriously injured and one feared dead after a speeding lorry hit them as they were crossing Mombasa Road.
