Police recover car stolen from Ruto’s spokesman

Police have recovered the vehicle stolen from Deputy President’s spokesman, David Mugonyi during a carjacking incident on Tuesday night.

The vehicle, a Toyota Prado registration number KBM979S, was recovered abandoned in Pipeline estate in Embakasi.

Kilimani OCPD Peter Katam said the vehicle was found in good condition.

“It was dusted for fingerprints and taken to the Embakasi Police Station where it will stay until investigations have been concluded. We are hopeful that we will arrest the carjackers soon,” Mr Kattan said.

Mr Mugonyi was carjacked as he was entering his compound in Kilimani along Dennis Pritt Road at around 8:30 pm.

Four people, three of them armed with pistols, accosted him and forced him out of the driver’s seat.

“The carjackers entered the car and drove it away with Mr Mugonyi inside. They headed towards Mombasa Road as they robbed him of his valuables before leaving him in Mlolongo and driving away with the car,” Nairobi County Police Commandant Benson Kibui had said.

Cases of carjacking have been common in the city. Most of the carjacking victims with personal cars are waylaid as they are waiting for their gates to be opened.
