Police recover gun used in Kabete MP shooting

Police have recovered a G3 rifle used in the fatal shooting of Kabete MP George Muchai and his 3 aides.

The gun was found at Area 87 near Kinoo in Nairobi. Police also arrested three more suspects.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery told journalists late Friday afternoon that investigators have made “significant inroads”.

“I can confirm that we have in custody four key suspects and two other possible accomplices in the murder of Muchai, his driver and two bodyguards,” said Mr Nkaissery.

“We also have the murder weapon, firearm stolen from the security officer and other material suspected to have been used in the execution of the murder.”

REMANDED

Earlier Friday, the court allowed a suspect arrested in connection with the killing of the Kabete MP remanded for the next 14 days.

The court granted the continued custodial orders against Mr Simon Wambugu Gichamba so that “he may help in tracing his accomplices.”

Mr Gichamba, 20, is suspected to have killed the politician in the pre-dawn shooting last Saturday along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi in an attack where the MP’s driver and two guards were also felled.

Mr Muchai was buried on Friday while his aides – driver Stephen Ituu Wambugu, and the two bodyguards Samwel Kimathi Kairika and Samwel Lakaley Matanta – will be laid to rest over the weekend and early next week.
