Police release video of security surveillance in Nairobi and Mombasa – VIDEO

Police have released an online video that highlights the role of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in combating crime in Nairobi and Mombasa.

The video, titled Technology in Modern Policing, shows how the police follow and arrest suspects involved in crimes captured by the cameras.

In the four minute video clip posted on YouTube, police officers are seen monitoring and arresting a suspect who was seen camouflaging his appearance by removing a kanzu and a cap while resting on a bench at Central Park.

The man was found to be a foreigner staying in Kenya illegally and could neither speak Swahili or English.

In another incident, five teenagers under surveillance were arrested after while trailing an unsuspecting man from Uhuru Park to Supreme Court buildings. The five were found with a homemade gun.

The Integrated Command, Control, and Communication (IC3) system enables coordination between officers on patrol and the control center.

Information and tips are relayed to officers on the ground who are then able to take appropriate action.

The system was commissioned in May 2015 in Nairobi and Mombasa.
