Police to probe rape claim after shocking newspaper advert

National Police Service (NPS) headquarters has taken over a defilement case following a complaint through a paid-for newspaper advert.

Mr Ondicho Simba placed a half page advert in the Daily Nation Friday, saying a police officer based in Kisii defiled a 12 year old girl but was left scot free.

NPS spokesman George Kinoti said the headquarters had learnt of the incident through the press.

“I can assure you the officer will be in court in less than 24 hours once it’s established an offence is occurred.  It’s a surprise we are receiving this information through the media.,” he said.

Mr Kinoti added: “It’s a very serious allegation in the first place. The investigation will also seek to establish if the member of the public was so frustrated to the extent of purchasing space in the newspaper.  If the station was not taking action, we have the OCPD,  regional commanders,  IPOA and the Internal Affairs.  Action will be taken. ”

The advert on Pg 57 was addressed to Inspector General Joseph Boinnet.

It said: “Am a citizen and wish to address you through the media regarding a 12 year old who was sexually defiled in kisii county by a police officer based at kisii police station on January 22.”

It added: “The public pounced on the officer and beat him ruthlessly and he was rescued by his colleagues. We reported the matter at the police station but the OCS (Officer Commanding Police Station ) and his deputy refused to allow statements to be recorded and have been protecting the officer.”
