Policeman arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, robbing University students
A police officer has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, stealing and selling illegal substances to university students.
The officer, who is attached to Dog Unit in Nakuru, was arrested on Tuesday after the chief security officer at Kabarak University called police after spotting a motor vehicle that had earlier on reported to have been parked out the institution.
According to an earlier police report by students which was recorded on May 15, the vehicle was used by individuals who kidnapped two students and stole from them.
The two students had reported that on May 13, they were kidnapped by the said officer and another individual then bundled in the car and robbed of all the money they had.
MANHUNT
After the alert police managed to arrest the officer although his accomplices escaped.
In the car, police recovered 29 rolls of bhang (cannabis sativa) which were hidden inside margarine can.
The police added that the victims positively identified the suspect as the person who kidnapped and robbed them.
The suspect is being held at Menengai Police Station and will be arraigned in court after investigations have been completed.
The police have meanwhile launched a manhunt for the suspect’s accomplices who are on the run.
