Power bills set to fall

Small consumers will pay less for electricity after power regulator, Energy Regulatory Commission, ordered Kenya Power to cut bills.

The five-year reduction plan will see average cost of power unit reduce to Sh15.51 from Sh15.59 starting from the next two weeks.

The biggest beneficiaries are the 1.3 million power customers, comprising 58 per cent of the total electricity users, who will see their bills cut down by 7.9 per cent in the seven months after December and a further 7.7 per cent in the period to June 2015.

This is the first time the regulator is doing the review after five years.

Earlier this year, Kenya Power had sought guidance from ERC to increase the tariffs in order to finance its ambitious projects.
