DJ Pierra works out her baby bump – Video

April 14th, 2016 1 min read

A very pregnant DJ Pierra Mckenna, who is in her second trimester, tried her hands on working out recently.

In a video posted by Fit Republic on their Facebook page, she is seen rubbing her tummy and saying that she is not going to overdo it because she is not alone.

It was not all rosy for her as she was also seen winching when working out.

But is it advisable for a pregnant woman to work out?

Nairobi News talked to Dr Michael Muthusi and said that working out during pregnancy is just fine.

“Pregnant women should just stay hydrated, avoid the heat, and not exercise on their backs after their first trimester,” said Muthusi.

He added that regular exercise during pregnancy can improve posture and decrease some common discomforts like backaches and fatigue.

Also, physical activity may prevent gestational diabetes (diabetes that develops during pregnancy), relieve stress, and build more stamina needed for labour and delivery.

Dr Muthusi also warned that expectant women with no history of regular exercise should first consult their doctor.

He warned that exercising may not be advisable for pregnant women with medical conditions like asthma, heart disease, or diabetes,
