Preparations for Uhuru’s swearing in top gear
The Kenya Defence Forces have stepped up preparations for the swearing in ceremony of President Uhuru Kenyatta for a second term next Tuesday at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.
With only five days to the ceremony, Wednesday saw the military full dress rehearsal, a complete walk through of what it will be like when Kenyatta is inaugurated.
Following the Supreme Court decision on Monday that unanimously upheld the outcome of the October 26 presidential poll, President Kenyatta will be sworn in for the final term in line with the Constitution, which stipulates the inauguration must be done within seven days of the ruling.
TIGHT SECURITY
During Wednesday’s rehearsal, Chief of Defence Forces Gen Samson Mwathethe inspected a guard of honour mounted by KDF.
The military personnel, in their full regalia, enacted different roles of what will happen on Tuesday with Mwathathe playing the role of the president.
Security has also been beefed up within the venue with the rehearsals expected to continue on Thursday.
The Assumption of the Office of the President ceremony usually begins at 10am and the committee in charge has since confirmed that close to 100,000 visitors will be in attendance including hundreds of dignitaries.
