President Ruto makes key appointments and promotions in KDF leadership


President William Ruto on Friday made major changes in the leadership of the Kenya Defense Forces.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence and signed by Mr Bogita Ongeri, the Director Public Communication, the Head of State made the changes following an advice which was issued by the National Defence council which is chaired by Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.

President has promoted Brigadier Dennis Nyaga Njue Kamuri to Major General and appointed the Managing Director Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation.

Brigadier Mohamed Nur Hassan has been appointed the General Officer Commanding Border Security Command.

Colonel Sylvester Kipkorir Chirchir has been promoted to a Brigadier and appointed Deputy Director Directorate of National Security Industries while Colonel Mathew Liita Lenamunai has been promoted to a Brigadier and appointed the Commander Kahawa Garrison.

Colonel Joseph Kaku Mutua has been promoted to a Brigadier and appointed the Commandant Construction Engineers Brigade while Colonel Giliad Mwachala Kimonge has been promoted to a Brigadier and named the Chief of Operations, Defence Headquarters.

Colonel Titus Gitamo Sokobe has been promoted to a Brigadier and appointed Chief of Infrastructure at the Defence Headquarters while Colonel Omari Mohammed Rajab has been promoted to a Brigadier and appointed Deputy Managing Director Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation.

Colonel Peter Kipketer Limo has been promoted to a Brigadier and deployed as Managing Director Defence Forces Canteen Organisation.

Colonel Oscar Kizito Muleyi has been promoted to a Brigadier and appointed Director Centre for Security and Strategic Studies National Defence University while Colonel Oswald Oduor Opiyo has been promoted to a Brigadier and will remain the Director Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum.

Colonel Roba Bonaya Wario has also been promoted to a Brigadier and deployed to the Office of the National Security Advisor.

Under the category of postings and appointments President Ruto also made the following changes: Major General Rashid Abdi Elmi has been posted to National Defence College and appointed the commandant.

Major General John Maison Nkoimo has been posted to the Kenya Military Academy and appointed the Commandant while Major General Eric Mbugua Kinuthia has been posted to joint Command and Staff College and appointed the commandant.

Other postings include that of Major General Charles Muriu Kahariri who has been appointed the Deputy Commandant and Senior Directing Staff Navy, National Defense College and Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed who has been posted to the National Defence College and appointed Senior Directing Staff Air.

The changes have been made across various ranks of KDF in line with the advice of the Defence Council, just a day after the Head of State, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, awarded certificates of 70 graduates after they successfully completed 49 weeks of intensive training at the National Defence College (NDC) in Karen, Nairobi.

The course consisted of 53 Kenyans who were drawn from the military and other Government Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) while 17 of them were from allied countries in Africa and Asia.
