Pusetu officials barred from Labour Day fete

Officials of the Public Service Trade Unions (Pusetu-K) were on Thursday denied entry to Uhuru Park, the venue of this year’s Labour Day celebrations.

Anti-riot officers who were stationed at Uhuru highway diverted the protesting Pusetu-K officials and their members to the city centre.

Labour secretary Kazungu Kambi and his Interior counterpart Joseph ole Lenku attended the celebrations hosted by the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu).

Senators James Orengo, Moses Wetangula and Mike sonko, and house majority leader Aden Duale attended the celebrations.

Officials and members of Pusetu-K held their own parallel Labour Day celebrations outside Knut headquarters on Mfangano Street.

Cotu, which has over the years organised the celebrations, had accused rival union, Pusetu-K, of hiring university students to disrupt Thursday’s event at Uhuru park.
