Puzzle of unregistered firearm found inside deceased police officer’s desk


Police in Runda Police Post, Westlands Sub-County have launched investigations after an unregistered firearm was recovered from the desk of a police officer who died a week ago.

According to a police report seen by Nairobi News, the Ceska Pistol was recovered along with a magazine loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition. The firearms was found inside a small carton wrapped in a brown khaki envelope.

The discovery was made by an officer who was on duty. It is then that the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Runda Police Station brought it to the attention of the Sub County Police Commander who visited the scene while accompanied by the Sub County’s sleuth attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

A check through records at Gigiri Police Station and Runda Police Station indicated that the serial number of the pistols did match any of registered firearms. A signal was thereafter sent to all the police stations to establish from their records whether the firearm belonged to any of them.

This incident comes just a day after police officers in Nyeri arrested a 19-year-old man who was found in possession of a homemade gun capable of firing and bhang.

The National Police Service (NPS) said the teenager was arrested following a tip-off from members of the public. Other than the firearm, the suspect was also found in possession of rolls of cannabis sativa.
