Serious questions are being asked following the government’s allocation of Sh6billion for the final resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the 2016/17 national budget.

In the budget presented in parliament on Wednesday by National Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Henry Rotich, the said amount was allocated to the resettlement of IDPs who are supposedly resettled by now.

This even as in February 2016 the government released Sh1billion to conclude the resettlement of all IDPs in the country from the events of the 2007-2008 post election violence.

BIG QUESTION

Deputy President William Ruto is on record for stating a definite date during the same month of February within which the last batch of funds would have been wired to the accounts of the affected people.

At the time, the Sh1billion released by the government was reported to have brought to Sh17.5 billion the total amount spent on resettlement of IDPs since 2008.

So if there are no more IDPs left in Kenya, then why did the CS allocate the additional amount towards the same end?

That is the 6 billion shillings question that Kenyans have been asking themselves on social media since CS Rotich read the budget in parliament.
