Radio queen Caroline Mutoko undergoes weight loss procedure, sheds 11kgs
Renowned media personality Caroline Mutoko recently revealed a remarkable weight loss journey, shedding 11 kilograms in just two months through a gastric balloon procedure.
Starting at a weight of 94 kilograms, she now weighs 83 kilograms, thanks to the procedure.
Addressing her audience, Mutoko spoke passionately about the importance of health, especially for women over the age of 40.
She shared her personal experience, emphasising the need for open conversations about health, finances, and life in general.

“After 13 years, I finally paid a visit to a health facility for my first consultation. I told the doctor that as I enter this season where cortisol, estrogen, and progesterone aren’t necessarily working together in my favour, I need help. So, I took the help I needed,” she explained.
The doctor had recommended a gastric balloon, a suggestion that initially left her sceptical. She expressed concern that most individuals who undergo the procedure seem to be younger, and she wasn’t sure if it would be as effective for women over 40.
However, her close friends, who had tried the procedure, encouraged her to give it a chance.
“It’s all these people who we know their bodies are built like rubber bands, and they just snap. And then there’s us. And I told the doctor, for my people, we are skeptical because we’ve got a whole other gangland of things going on,” said Mutoko.

Mutoko clarified that the gastric balloon is merely a tool that aids in the weight loss process, contributing to about 20% of the effort.
“I was flabbergasted, amazed that what a lot of people think is a shortcut is in no form, shape or manner going to work if you don’t do 80-90% of the work. You will have to watch your diet, work out, listen to your nutritionist, and do the therapy because everything is in your head,” continued Ms Mutoko.
A gastric balloon is typically made from silicone or polyurethane material. It is ingested in the form of a pill attached to a thin tube, which is later inflated with saline water once it reaches the stomach.
The balloon fills approximately half of the stomach and remains there for five to six months. Doctors believe that with a gastric balloon, combined with a healthy diet and exercise, a person can lose between 10-15% of their body weight.
Mutoko joins a list of popular Kenyan figures who have opted for this procedure to aid in their weight loss journey.
Influencers such as Maureen Waititu, Kelvin Kinuthia, and Mamake Bobo, socialite Anerlisa Muigai, and actresses Kate Actress and Jackie Matubia have all undergone similar transformations.
