Raila: I will prosecute those who inflated SGR cost if I’m elected president

National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, has said that he will deal with those who inflated the cost of the Standard Gauge Railway if he becomes president.

Addressing journalists at Orange House on Wednesday, Mr Odinga said that the price of the SGR project was inflated from Sh227 billion to Sh350 billion by the Jubilee government.

He said if he wins in the August 8 polls, he would take legal action against the perpetrators.

INFLATED PRICE

“We are going to deal with those who inflated the price of the project when we form the next government. We know who are responsible. It is not the Chinese, and these are the people we are going to deal with,” said Mr Odinga.

He, however, welcomed the project saying that it would contribute towards the economic emancipation of the country saying that as Nasa leaders they welcome the project and only disagree with the government on how it had been executed through its costing.

“We are happy that it is happening. We want to thank the Chinese government for working together with us to make this dream a reality. It is going to be a major contribution to our economy so we cannot oppose it,” he said.
