Raila sparks storm by dragging Safaricom into poll dispute

By NAIRA HABIB September 26th, 2017 1 min read

Twitter was a storm of varied reactions after Nasa leader Raila Odinga linked telecommunication company Safaricom to the bungled August 8 presidential election.

Mr Odinga on Tuesday asked the mobile service provider, which was contracted by IEBC, to explain delays in transmission of August 8 election results.

The delays, he said, gave room to the manipulation of the poll outcome relayed to the national tallying centre at Bomas in the capital Nairobi.

Mr Odinga threatened court action against six individuals he claimed were part of the scheme he claimed denied him victory.

Nasa, he said, would institute private prosecution against the fingered Safaricom employees.

The accusation elicited varied reactions on Twitter.
