Raila urged to appoint Uhuru as Deputy President

Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina suggests Raila Odinga should pick President Uhuru Kenyatta as his running mate.

In a series of tweets, the vocal politician who is a close ally of Odinga argued that the Kenyan law doesn’t stop Odinga from selecting the retiring Head of State as his Deputy.

He also shared the example of county governors who are vying for the Senate seat after completing their term in office.

President Kenyatta’s ten-year term in office comes to an end in August 2022 and is barred by the constitution from contesting for the same seat. The President has openly been campaigning for Odinga’s election amid suggestion he will still be actively involved in politics even after his term as President expires.

This as a debate ensures over whom Odinga should pick as his running mate.

Those that have been considered for the running mate in Odinga’s camp include Peter Kenneth, Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Peter Munya, and Hassan Joho.

Deputy President William Ruto, who is considered Odinga’s stiffest challenger is said to be eyeing either of Musalia Mudavadi, Ndindi Nyoro, Rigathi Gachagua, Anne Waiguru, Kithure Kindiki, and National Assembly Speaker Muturi as his running mate.
