Red Cross: Two million Kenyans affected by drought
The Red Cross Society has called on well-wishers to chip in and aid Kenyans affected by drought.
President Uhuru Kenyatta recently declared the drought a national disaster.
And Asha Mohammed, the Society’s secretary, also welcomed the Head of State announcement while also warning that Kenyans in the affected counties are at risk of starvation.
“Immediate response on the affected areas should commence immediately. Millions of Kenyans are starving with the ongoing drought. We call all the well-wishers, individuals, and donors to come on board in order to solve this puzzle,” said Dr. Mohammed.
Mohammed also clarified that 2 million Kenyans have been affected with fears of a possible rise.
“We shall distribute food, cash transfers, health, water, and sanitation services,” added she added.
The affected counties include Turkana, Marsabit, Garissa, Wajir, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Samburu, Kituio, Isiolo, Laikipia, and Baringo.
