Harambee Stars striker, Micheal Olunga, is hopeful of a career-defining move to English Premier League or the Spanish La Liga in future.

The IF Djurgaden player, who is in the country on holiday following the close of the Swedish league season, has been an instant hit since his move to Scandinavia.

The 2015 Kenyan Premier League player of the year banged in 12 league goals in his debut season at the Swedish top flight, a feat that saw him finishing fifth on the top scorers’ charts.

Speaking to Nairobi News on Friday morning after a training session with the national team, the striker confirmed that there have been interest from Spanish club Real Betis.

STANDING OVATION

“I could look for a move to Spain or England in the future. Now I have a four year contract here and I have also just started school there,” he said.

He also spoke about his first full season in Sweden and at the same time thanking the club fans for their support.

So satisfied was the club’s fan base by the 21 year old’s contribution this term, that they gave him a standing ovation after the final league match last week.

“I am satisfied with the way I have played this season but I know very well there is much more room for improvement,” Olunga.

HARD WORK

“It hasn’t been easy though, adapting to the language, food, training methods and other aspects of the game needed time. And then we had a change of coaches midway through the season,” he added.

“The league in Sweden is different from what we have here in Kenya. There football is played faster and things are so physical. Decision making has to be on point and you have to work very hard because there are four players on standby waiting to take over your position.”

The 21 year old is set to spearhead Kenya’s attack against Mozambique during an international friendly at Kasarani on Saturday afternoon.
