Please allow Obama to visit father’s grave, governor

Residents have appealed to the US embassy to schedule a visit for President Barrack Obama at his ancestral home in Kogelo, Siaya when he visits Kenya next month.

Governor Cornel Rasanga said he has talked with US Ambassador Robert Godec over the matter.

“It would be good President Obama came and prayed at the grave of his father. The embassy should heed to the demands of Siaya residents,” said Mr Rasanga.

He was addressing a press conference in his office after a trip to the US.

The governor said he had consulted Cord leader Raila Odinga, who had earlier met some US senators who were in the country in preparation for Mr Obama’s visit.

Mr Rasanga said a committee that would oversee the US president’s visit has been formed.

The governor said the committee has come up with four development agendas that they would hand over to Mr Obama.

The building of a university, construction of a medical training college and the setting up of a power plant at Ndanu Falls in River Yala are listed as part of the requests that will be made to the visiting president.

The county government will also request President Obama to help in the establishment of a state-of-the-art paediatric hospital in Siaya.

Mr Rasanga regretted that infant deaths are high in the county and an urgently solution is required.
