This what city restaurant accused of throwing out breastfeeding mother has to say
A city restaurant, which allegedly threw out a woman for breastfeeding her baby without covering herself, has spoken out for the first time.
Olive Restaurant, located along Accra Road within Nairobi’s CBD, on Friday stated that it is yet to receive any complaint from anyone claiming to have been mistreated while at their establishment.
The restaurant further claimed that the alleged incident only came to their attention via social media.
“We wish to state that even when we make this statement, we have not received a formal complaint from the alleged victims. We have only been made aware of this incident via social media,” a statement issued by the restaurant reads in part.
The statement was issued in response to reports of a group of women organizing to participate in a public demonstration next week to protest against the incident.
Wanjeri Nderi, the lady behind the campaign, confirmed to Nairobi News that there is a planned demonstration that will happen next week on Tuesday.
It is expected to start from Freedom Corner through Parliament Road to Accra Road to the restaurant.
“This is not the first time this has happened. Women have shared similar experiences in banks and other organisations. We want to tell people that every mother has the right to breastfeed their infant.”
