Revealed: Kibaki’s boy’s club

Former President Mwai Kibaki’s favorite bartender has mourned the death of the ex-Head of State.

Mr Shem Gachiri alias Njigari received the news of Kibaki’s demise at the Silent Bar and Restaurant, an entertainment joint the former Head of State frequently visited in Othaya town.

He recalled how the deceased president would frequent the joint in the evening and never wanted anyone to serve him.

“He would visit here from 6pm and every time he would find that I am not here, he would wait until I arrived so I could serve him,” he said.

According to Gachiri, other attendants in the same joint would be tasked to ensure that they look for him so that he could serve him.

He said that the ex-president would always visit the joint accompanied by close allies who include; Kieni Member of Parliament the late Munene Kairu, the late John Michuki and Stephen Waweru.

Others are, Njenga Karume, John Keen, Sir George and former Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) national boss Peter Kanyago.

Gachiri said that Kibaki was peace loving and did not like talking about politics when he was drinking his bottle.

He revealed that the last time Kibaki was at his joint was a few months before he became the President of Kenya in 2002.

“I will remember Kibaki as a great economist who achieved a lot in the ten years he served as the Head of State,” he said.
