Revealed: Police visited tycoon Jaswant Rai after he was released by abductors


Police officers held talks with billionaire businessman Jaswant Singh Rai over the weekend, Nairobi News has established.

It has emerged that both regular police officers and sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited Mr Rai, who is the Chairman of Rai Group, moments after he was released by his abductors.

A detective privy to the matter told Nairobi News that the officers arrived at Mr Rai’s residence in Kilimani estate moments after he was released.

“They found him in the company of the daughter, spoke to him briefly before they made the decision to allow him go to hospital and seek medical attention,” our source said.

Mr Rai was released by mysterious abductors and walked to his home. However, he has remained silent over the incident with his lawyers only confirming that he is safe.

Kilimani Sub-County police boss Moss Ndiwa said they will also have word with Mr Rai to establish what transpired.

“We received a report that he had gone missing and on Sunday the family said he had been released. It will be important to also get his statement on what happened,” said Mr Ndiwa.

Mr Rai, a well know and established businessman, went missing on Friday after he was abducted by unknown men who were driving a double-cabin pick-up.

The pick-up blocked Rai’s Toyota Land Cruiser at the junction of Wood Avenue in Kilimani and the occupants bundled Rai into their vehicle. Mr Rai’s vehicle, which was left in the middle of the road, was later towed away to Kilimani Police Station.

The family, through Rai’s daughter, thereafter made a report of missing person at Kilimani Police Station, Nairobi, vide OB No 21/26/08/2023.
