While confirming her death, her daughter Everlyne Kimathi said it was her wish that her husband’s body be released from Kamiti Prison and buried elsewhere by the state.

She will be buried at her home in Njambini.

During the struggle for independence, Mukami was one of the Mau Mau freedom fighters detained at Kamiti Maximum Prison.

Before her death, Mukami received financial assistance from President William Ruto’s administration to settle a hospital bill of Ksh1.3 million.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua announced the aid during a visit to Mukami at a hospital in Nairobi.
