By Nyaboga Kiage February 14th, 2023 2 min read

Joy Aoko Achieng, a Kenyan woman who was sexually assaulted and thrown down a building in Albania, has died.

Ms Ruth Abong’o, the mother of the lady said that her daughter on Monday, February 13, 2023, died while receiving treatment at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital (KUTRH).

“We have lost my daughter, I only hope that as a family we shall get justice,” Ms Abong’o said.

The lady who was working in the Gulf was assaulted in August 2022, and her unconscious body was discovered outside her apartment, where she was later rushed to a local hospital.

In March, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, evacuated the lady from Tirana, Albania, after her mother raised concerns over the incident.

The Ministry then organised her flight to Kenya following a backup to the family by social media users who asked the government to intervene.

“Unfortunately, she needed specialized neurological care which was unavailable in Albania,” the State Department said.

Her mother described her as a loving daughter who supported the family after she left Kenya in February 2022.

She was the last born in her family, and she had already paid rent for her mother to move from Dandora and settle in Buruburu Estate.

While she was still admitted to a hospital in Albania, Africans donated blood for her before they spread the message to Kenya that she was in a critical condition.

Ms Abong’o was later informed by friends and relatives who said they had seen very disturbing photos of her daughter on social media.

Doctors say that she suffered broken ribs, injuries on the stomach and back plus her pelvic bone suffered fractures.

Her friends in Albania said that the person who attacked her was in a mission to kill her but she was rescued.

Ms Aoko arrived in the country on January 25, 2023, and has been in hospital since then.

It is believed that the lady who worked in a Casino was assaulted by a driver tasked with dropping her home after work.
