RIP! Lizzie Wanyoike to be laid to rest at ex-husband’s residence

Lizzie Muthoni Wanyoike, the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nairobi Institute of Technology and Business Studies (formerly Nairobi Institute of Business Studies – NIBS), will be buried at her ex-husband’s residence.

Ms Wanyoike was previously married to the late former Gatanga Member of Parliament, Mr Mburu Wanyoike, whose hometown will host her final resting place.

According to the schedule provided by Lizzie’s family, the funeral ceremony is set for Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

The esteemed educator, founder of Lizzie Preparatory Schools, and proprietor of Emory Hotel passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, reportedly succumbing to cancer.

“Prayers shall be conducted in Garden Estate, Oaklane, Opposite Oakplace House number 13 from Tuesday, January 16, 2024,” the family announced.

Additionally, a memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the ACK St. Joseph of Arimathea, Thome Estate along Thika Road, starting at 2:20 pm.

Ms Wanyoike, who passed away at the age of 73, founded the Nairobi Institute of Technology and Business Studies in 1999.

The institution, considered among the best hospitality colleges in Kenya, boasts over 7,000 students and has graduated hundreds of thousands with various professional courses.

It has branches in Thika Town, Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), Ruiru – Kimbo (headquarters), and Ongata Rongai.

Apart from serving as Gatanga MP from 1992 to 1997, her ex-husband, Mr Mburu Wanyoike, who also passed away in 2018, worked as the Director of the Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC).

Married in 1972, after 25 years together, they separated.

Ms Wanyoike ventured into various businesses, including investments in education, land, and real estate.

Over the next 25 years until her demise, she transformed these ventures into a billionaire empire.

Despite their separation in 1997, Mrs Wanyoike consistently maintained that their marriage dissolved due to divergent investment perspectives rather than emotional differences.

Mr Wanyoike was the father of their three children, namely Wanyoike Mburu, Stella Wanjiru, and Eric Kariuki.
