By HILARY KIMUYU November 25th, 2017 1 min read

Nairobi Police boss Japheth Koome has urged motorists to avoid certain routes on Tuesday which have been designated as red zones during  President Uhuru Kenyatta’s inauguration.

The police boss said the routes will have “maximum security” and cautioned firm action against persons breaching the law.

Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway, the Junction of Limuru and Prof Wangari Mathai Road and Thika Super Highway will all be inaccessible.

“Anyone causing trouble along the red zones will be firmly dealt with,” Koome told journalists during a press briefing on Saturday.

He further said the security of more than 20 Heads of States and other dignitaries attending the ceremony cannot be compromised.

“It is a historic day and I want to ensure Kenyans and all foreigners residing in this city will be safe,” he said.

A multi-agency team drawn from the National Police Service, County Inspectorate and military personnel will be involved in the security of the city and Kasarani stadium.

At the same time, Koome has ruled out the availability of Uhuru Park for a political rally by the National Super Alliance (Nasa) on Tuesday.

However, Nasa leader Raila Odinga on Friday vowed to lead a memorial for those killed by police at Jacaranda grounds on the same day that President Kenyatta will be sworn into office.
