Ruto: Five reasons why Jubilee will win elections

Deputy President William Ruto Friday received a standing ovation during a Jubilee Party aspirants meeting in Nairobi when he enumerated five reasons he said showed that President Uhuru Kenyatta will be re-elected in August.

The DP was speaking at Kasarani Gymnasium when over 10,000 JP aspirants met to launch a membership drive.

In the points he enumerated, the DP told the crowd that the 2017 elections were different from those held in 2013.

1. The ICC

“In 2013, we were battling against what they said were choices with consequences at the International Criminal Court.”

This baggage, the DP told the packed Kasarani Gymnasium, had now been removed after the court withdrew his case and that of President Kenyatta.

“In 2017, that baggage is no longer with us,” he said.

2. Jubilee coalition is now one party

“In 2013, we ran as different parties. In 2017, we will face Kenyans as one people under a national party.”

3. Jubilee’s track record

“In 2013, we went to Kenyans with a list of pledges. In 2017, we are going to them with results and a track record.”

4. A “rudderless” opposition

On this fourth point, the Deputy President received a standing ovation with chants of “Ruto, Ruto, Ruto!”

Even when he tried to avoid it, the DP was forced, by an enthusiastic crowd, to repeat his sentence.

“In 2013, we faced a formidable team with half the government; a sitting Prime Minister and a sitting Vice President,” the DP said in reference to the Cord pair of Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

“In 2017,” he said, “we are facing a clueless, rudderless, leaderless, plan less, and disorganized opposition.”

5. Unity

“Kenyans now want to know what is it you will to do for them. It is not enough to say that so and so comes from that tribe.”

He chided the opposition for what he said was having no agenda.

“I am very happy that the Opposition is now also talking about roads… what we have done,” he said.

He added: “When they talk about having a Kenyan face, I ask you, is it them or us? Jubilee is the home of every region, religion and community.”
